Sometimes it is the little changes that can make a big difference. When it comes to dermal fillers, this can be especially true. Dermal fillers can provide subtle changes that can freshen your appearance or make your face look more youthful. They can be great non-invasive options for individuals with fine lines, wrinkles, or loss of volume because of aging skin.
At Palms Wellington Plastic Surgery, we don’t just provide surgical services for our patients in Wellington, FL. We also offer many different non-invasive treatments that can provide noticeable improvement without surgery. Dermal fillers are a good way to lift and smooth the face and are a popular service at our clinic.
What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are medications that are injected into the skin to provide anti-aging or facial contouring results. Their main purpose is to provide volume in areas that are lacking it, whether because of skin laxity or because of the loss of facial fat pads.
These products are injected using a very small needle. As a result, dermal filler treatments are fast, minimally invasive, and relatively comfortable. These treatments are also available to many patients of all different ages and skin types.
Different Types of Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are commonly made from an ingredient called hyaluronic acid. You may be familiar with this substance as an ingredient found in many different facial serums and creams, but it is also found naturally in your body. The dermal fillers that we use at our practice feature synthetic hyaluronic acid that is biocompatible and dissolvable by the body. We offer two different types of dermal fillers at our practice, Juvéderm®, and Restylane®.
Juvéderm
Juvéderm is the brand name for a family of hyaluronic acid fillers. There are 6 different products in the Juvéderm line that can provide customizable treatments for many different areas of the face.
- Juvéderm Voluma® XC: A firm solution that adds volume to substantial areas such as the cheeks and chin.
- Juvéderm Vollure® XC: This product is well suited for treating wrinkles and folds, particularly in the lower half of the face.
- Juvéderm Ultra XC: Ultra XC is one of the products that we use to plump lips and give them a fuller appearance and a more uniform shape.
- Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC: If you have deep nasolabial folds, this formula can help to fill these lines in and make you look more refreshed.
- Juvéderm Volbella® XC: Volbella is a thin formula that is used to fill in fine lines around the lips, called perioral lines, or to help add volume.
- Juvéderm Volux™ XC: This product can be injected deeper into the tissue to improve jaw definition in both men and women.
Restylane
Restylane is another line of hyaluronic acid fillers. It features a more granular texture which helps it to remain in place better and makes it easier to mold.
- Restylane: For use in nasolabial folds or lips.
- Restylane Kysse: Good for adding volume with natural movement to lips.
- Restylane Silk: For soft lip volume and correcting lipstick lines.
- Restylane Lyft (formerly Perlane): The only FDA-approved filler that can treat both the hands and the face.
- Restylane Refyne: A great product for softening nasolabial folds and marionette lines.
- Restylane Defyne: Featuring XpresHAn Technology™, this product is good for adding volume to the chin or filling in laugh lines.
- Restylane Contour: A product for improving cheek definition and contour.
How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?
HA dermal fillers are a temporary product that can also be dissolved at any time. However, they can provide long-lasting results when injected properly. Each product is different even within product families. Lip fillers can last for up to 6 months, while other types of fillers may last for up to 18 months or more. You will need to discuss with your doctor the specific products being used to be able to get a more accurate answer for the filler being used.
What Can Dermal Fillers Treat?
Thin Lips
Dermal fillers for lips are a popular product. This treatment can be used for subtle or more noticeable volume in the lips. The amount injected is variable depending on the patient and the look that they are going for. At our practice, we spend time discussing potential results and making sure you have a good expectation for what can be achieved using dermal fillers.
Loss of Facial Volume
As you age, areas such as your cheeks, temples, and under-eyes can lose fat and begin to look more aged and hollow. By using dermal fillers under eyes, in the cheeks, or in other areas throughout the face, we can make you look younger and more energized to help match the youthfulness that you feel on the inside.
Lines and Wrinkles
Everyone gets lines and wrinkles as they age, but if genetics or sun damage has caused them to appear earlier, they can make you look older than you are. We can fill in lines and wrinkles in many areas of the face by injecting fillers where you have more pronounced lines and wrinkles. If you look at photos of patients before and after dermal fillers, they will still look like themselves, but you’ll notice fewer lines and a more refreshed appearance.
Facial Contouring
Dermal fillers can be used to change the shape of certain features subtly to make them more defined or prominent. Dermal fillers for facial contouring are common on the jawline, on the cheeks, on the chin, and in the temples.
