What is Strip Grafting?
Strip grafting in West Palm Beach, FL is a hair restoration procedure during which a physician surgically transplants hair follicles from one area of the scalp to another that is experiencing hair loss. This procedure is great for patients who are not candidates for NeoGraft® and have more severe cases of hair loss. While scarring from this treatment is inevitable, it is usually minimal and hidden because of the discrete places on the scalp that hair grafts are taken from.
How Does it Work?
During a strip grafting procedure, our hair restoration surgeon surgically removes a strip of scalp from either the side or back of the patient’s head. Once the hair containing tissue is removed, it is prepared to be reinserted back into the scalp. The grafts are then carefully placed back onto the scalp in a natural-looking way. Typically, patients are awake or mildly sedated during the procedure using local anesthesia and mild oral sedation so they can remain as comfortable as possible.
What Can I Expect After Treatment?
The amount of time that each strip grafting procedure takes depends on the size of the treatment area. Swelling is common after treatment, and the full recovery process typically takes no more than a week to complete.
Am I a Candidate for a Strip Grafting Procedure?
Nearly anyone suffering from hair loss who has an adequate amount of viable hair on the back or sides of their head is a potential candidate for a strip grafting procedure. However, it is important for patients to keep in mind that factors like hair texture, waviness, and curliness can have an impact on the results of their strip grafting procedure.
