Millions of Americans are affected by hair loss each year. Men are typically the focus of hair restoration, but that number also includes millions of women. Like men, women can experience significant hair loss because of genetics, stress, or illness.
Hair loss is a complicated problem that sometimes has more than one cause. That’s why each person needs individualized hair restoration solutions to meet their goals.
If you’re seeing more than the usual amount of hair left behind in your brush, we can help. Palms Wellington Plastic Surgery offers a hair restoration treatment that’s right for you, including NeoGraft, strip grafting, PRP, and the most effective medications currently available for male hair loss.
What Is the NeoGraft Hair Restoration for Men and Women?
Have you considered surgical hair restoration but were concerned about the long recovery time and pain associated with traditional procedures? If so, NeoGraft may be the answer.
NeoGraft is an FDA-approved, minimally invasive treatment that uses follicular unit extraction (FUE). Many of our patients prefer the NeoGraft procedure over traditional treatments because of the faster recovery time. We see great results with substantial restoration in a few short months.
How Does NeoGraft Work?
Hair follicles naturally grow on the scalp in groups of one to three. This placement is responsible for the full, even coverage of hair on the head.
Traditionally, hair transplant procedures have involved the surgical removal of a strip of scalp from the back of the patient’s head. This procedure typically leaves a scar and requires a more significant amount of recovery time.
With NeoGraft technology, we can extract groups of follicles from the donor site to replant them where needed. Unlike the traditional strip method of transplant that’s performed with a scalpel, NeoGraft uses an automated handpiece to carefully remove and replant follicles with precision.
NeoGraft is minimally invasive and causes little to no discomfort to our patients. Additional benefits include:
- Natural-looking results
- High patient satisfaction levels
- No stitches
- Minimal downtime
- No visible scarring
- Recommended for both men and women
To ensure that the procedure is performed with accuracy, a certified NeoGraft technician assists the physician to complete the procedure. Our technicians must have a minimum of five years of experience to be certified, and annual recertification is required.
Almost any adult with moderate hair loss who is in good health is a candidate for the NeoGraft technique. You must have an adequate amount of donor hair located at the base of your scalp.
While it is necessary to shave the donor area, patients who prefer longer hair will be happy to learn that we can disguise the shaved area with the longer strands.
What to Expect from NeoGraft
Each person’s hair restoration goals are different, but many of our patients need only one procedure to attain their desired results. Each treatment can take four to ten hours to complete.
Discomfort during healing is minimal, and you must refrain from strenuous activity for the first two weeks after the procedure. We will provide all necessary aftercare information, including recommendations for shampoos and other hair care products.
The NeoGraft technique does not require stitches, so there’s no need for suture removal.
No hair restoration treatment comes with a guarantee. However, NeoGraft carries a high level of patient satisfaction.
Strip Grafting to Restore Hair
If you have severe hair loss or do not meet the requirements for NeoGraft, strip grafting can help you meet your hair restoration goals. Strip grafting is a highly effective method to correct hair loss.
The procedure involves the removal of a strip of scalp from the donor area. The donor sample is then grafted back into the scalp where hair is sparse, creating a natural, full look.
Strip grafting is an outpatient surgical procedure that requires mild oral sedation and the use of local anesthesia. Recovery takes approximately a week or less for most patients.
Candidates for strip grafting must consider that hair texture and curliness can differ from the donor site to the replanting site. These differences will impact the final result of your strip grafting procedure.
Platelet-Rich Plasma for Hair Restoration
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses your body’s naturally occurring growth factors to stimulate healing and regeneration. PRP works by taking a small sample of the patient’s blood and isolating the platelet-rich plasma through a centrifuge. The isolated plasma is then reinjected back into the targeted treatment area.
As a hair restoration treatment, PRP activates stem cells in damaged hair follicles to help them produce hair again. PRP can be used as a standalone treatment or in conjunction with other methods. Most people are good candidates for PRP.
Medications for Hair Loss
If your hair loss is not yet severe or you’re simply not ready to consider in-office procedures, we offer access to all of the leading prescription hair restoration medications, including Propecia.
Due to the hormones used in prescription hair restoration medications, they may not be recommended for some women. Pregnant and nursing women and women with some health issues cannot use or touch some topical hair restoration medications.
