What is Red Light Therapy?

woman Brunette Long Hair

Red light therapy is low-level laser therapy (LLLT) that increases blood flow, stimulates cellular rejuvenation and promotes collagen production, among other benefits. The low-level wavelengths emitted through the skin help facilitate the process of tissue recovery along with other forms of rejuvenation. It is called low-level because its energy density is low compared to other types of laser therapy. Red light therapy has many uses, including hair restoration.

According to clinical studies, red light therapy has specific healing capabilities and other medical applications due to the way it affects the immune and endocrine systems. It is FDA-approved for treating chronic joint pain and wounds that heal slowly. It is expected to be approved for many more conditions because of the obvious benefits it provides, including increased immunity, anti-aging effects, tissue repair and, of course, hair restoration.

Some of the overall benefits of red light therapy include the following:

• It is 100 percent natural and chemical-free

• It is non-invasive and requires no knives or needles

• It is non-ablative and will not burn or damage the skin

• It is free of discomfort and does not burn, sting or itch

• It requires zero downtime

• It is safe for all skin types and ages

• It has no adverse long or short-term side effects

In addition to hair restoration, red light therapy is often used as a treatment for skin issues. It may improve skin tone and build collagen that reduces wrinkles. It helps speed the healing of rosacea and acne and repairs sun damaged skin. It reduces broken capillaries, scars and stretch marks and prevents hair loss while stimulating hair regrowth.

This treatment is most beneficial for those experiencing the early stages of hair loss. This is because the red light stimulates and repairs the hair follicle, allowing it to grow new hair. If you have noticed your hair thinning, you would likely make a good candidate for red light therapy.

Red light therapy is able to have a positive effect on so many issues because it promotes the release of ATP from the cell’s mitochondria. It also activates the lymphatic system and fuels DNA/RNA synthesis. This is an important part of the immune system that helps remove toxins from the body. When it increases circulation, it helps bring more oxygen and nutrients to the cells and tissues.

Along with skin and tissue issues, it may also help with digestion because it improves the natural production of fibroblasts. It lowers the effects of aging by lowering the effects of oxidative stress and free radical damage. For those who have undergone cancer treatments, red light therapy has been shown to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, according to studies done by NASA and the University of Alabama. Of the participants in the study, 96 percent of cancer patients experienced improvement in pain after the red light treatment.

If you are dealing with the beginning stages of hair loss, red light therapy with the experts at Hair Restoration of the Palm Beaches may be able to help you. Contact us at either of our offices in Wellington or Boynton Beach to schedule your consultation and find out if this treatment is right for you!
